This printer is a Brother MFC-235C, after some research via the interweb I realised exactly what the problem was:
Brother are ARSEBANDITS
Basically, the way the printer is designed is that it cleans the printer heads every time you switch it on, and every other day or some bullshit like that. When it cleans these heads it dumps a shitloada ink down the drain, costing you yet another expensive ink cartridge. Appartently its a way for them to bring in a lot more revenue.
I only use the black ink cartridge so after wasting tons of money on colour ink that i never use I decided to stand up to these wankers
Anyways all that boring crap outta the way heres how you bypass this problem
note:this may well work with other printers too, give it a go, what have you got to loose?
The idea is to trick the sensor that measures how much ink is left in the cartridge into thinking it is full, then it wont keep asking you to refill.
Step 1.
Get that punkass cartridge outta the printer
look for the part where you can see the ink, there may be a vertical plastic line on it.
Step 2.
Then place black masking tape over it
Put it back in to see if it works.
Below is a before and after shot of the tape on the cartridge. Pretty straight forward like.
Without tape:
With tape:
Handy job eh?
Although this is said to damage the printhead, thats the only thing.
If you aren't gonna use the colour one then it shouldn't be a problem..
Try blacking out your ink cartridge in other places if it isint a brother one, careful though you might damage something.
